Yesterday evening Gasunie signed a binding contract for the lease of a floating LNG installation (FSRU) from the American energy infrastructure company New Fortress Energy. For the next five years this vessel will convert liquefied natural gas into gas in the Eemshaven in the north of Groningen. The installation is also suitable for the storage of gas. The vessel is expected to arrive in Eemshaven in the third quarter of 2022.
With this second floating LNG installation, Gasunie subsidiary EemsEnergyTerminal BV is expanding its new LNG terminal in Eemshaven, making a total of 8 billion cubic metres of natural gas available to the national network after processing the liquefied natural gas (LNG) that is brought in. At the end of April Gasunie contracted the FSRU S188 from the Belgian shipping company Exmar. This installation will also arrive in Eemshaven in the third quarter.
Interest from market players
The recently launched tender for LNG market parties has led to overwhelming interest. More than 15 parties have so far registered their interest in using the terminal to deliver LNG cargoes, and demand is four times higher than supply. These parties now have until 10 June to convert their interest into a binding LNG supply contract. Once the floating facilities from Exmar and NFE are moored in Eemshaven, they will be technically ready, connected to the existing gas network in Eemshaven and then transported to the LNG terminal. Both facilities are expected to be operational this autumn.
Optimalisation
From Eemshaven, Gasunie will continue to ensure the onward transport of gas in the Netherlands via the national gas pipeline network. As well as Eemshaven, the existing GATE terminal on the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam will also undergo optimisation to enable more LNG to be realised. Eemshaven and Rotterdam together will then double the LNG capacity in the Netherlands.
New Fortress Energy Inc.
New Fortress Energy Inc. is a global energy infrastructure company established to address energy poverty and accelerate the global transition to reliable, affordable and clean energy. The company owns and operates natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure, vessels and logistics assets to rapidly deliver turnkey energy solutions to global markets.
Important contribution
In mid-March this year, Energy and Climate Minister Jetten announced that the Dutch cabinet was investigating with Gasunie how the import capacity for LNG in the Netherlands could be increased in the short term. Gasunie is thus making a significant contribution towards becoming independent of Russian natural gas.
August 15, 2022 Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras informs that, as a result of the progress of the development project for the Búzios field , in the Santos Basin pre-salt area, it signed today a contract with Keppel Shipyard Limited for the construction of platform P-80 , the ninth unit to be installed in the field. This unit will be one of the largest to operate in Brazil and one of the largest in the global oil and gas industry, with capacity to produce up to 225 thousand barrels of oil per day, process up to 12 million m3/day of gas, and store more than 1.6 million barrels. The project foresees the interconnection of 14 wells, 7 of which are oil producers and 7 injectors. The platform will be self-owned, of the FPSO type (floating unit that produces, stores, and transfers oil), with a minimum local content index of 25%. Production is scheduled to start in 2026. The P-80 will be the 28th system to operate in the pre-salt. The P-80 is part of Petrobras' new generat...
29 JUNE 2022 Equinor has agreed to sell to Shell 51% of its interest in the North Platte deep water development project in the US Gulf of Mexico. Equinor will retain 49% interest in the project, and Shell will become the new operator of the field. To reflect this change, Equinor and Shell have agreed to rename the North Platte development to the Sparta development . Sparta straddles four blocks of the Garden Banks area, 275 kilometers (171 miles) off the coast of Louisiana in approximately 1,300 meters (4265 feet) of water depth. Front-end engineering and design (FEED) has been matured for the project. Equinor and Shell will now work closely to review the work that has been completed and to update the development plan. Since 2005 Equinor has built up a sizable position in the Gulf of Mexico, which offers some of the highest value, lowest carbon intensity oil and gas production in the company’s portfolio. “Equinor has long-term view of Sparta as a high-quality project with a clear strat...
August 11, 2022 Saipem has been awarded three new contracts (one onshore and two offshore) by the New Gas Consortium composed by two wholly owned subsidiaries of Azule Energy (Eni Angola Exploration B.V. and BP Exploration (Angola) Limited), Sonangol P&P, Chevron, TotalEnergies, for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) activities relevant to the Quiluma & Maboqueiro fields development project off the northwest coast of Angola. With an overall value of around 900 million USD, Saipem is taking care of the engineering, procurement and construction, including hook-up and commissioning assistance, of the Quiluma platform and of the relevant onshore natural gas processing plant. This confirms customers’ trust in Saipem for the execution of complex projects both in terms of technology and logistics, carried out in line with local content and with the highest environmental sustainability standards. In particular, this is the first project carried out in Angola relevant t...
