Arup appointed to advise on industry first LNG modular tank design

11 February 2019 Arup has been appointed by Commonwealth LNG to provide specialist engineering services for the development of industry first LNG modular storage tanks. Commonwealth LNG plans to construct and operate its proposed natural gas liquefaction and export facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, with first export of liquified natural gas commencing in 2024. The facility has a total liquefaction capacity of 8.4 million tonnes per year and a total LNG storage volume of 240,000m3. The innovative design of the modular tank – an original concept by Arup - allows the tank to be constructed offsite at a dedicated fabrication yard in parallel with foundation construction onsite. This approach significantly reduces onsite labour and shortens completion time by up to one year. These benefits result in capital cost savings and overall project risk reduction. Arup is supporting Commonwealth LNG to obtain final approval from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission by providing structu

BP begins production from Juniper project in Trinidad

14 August 2017 BP Trinidad and Tobago (BPTT) today announced first gas from the Juniper development , the fifth of BP’s seven Upstream major project start-ups planned for 2017. Juniper has begun production on schedule and under budget. The project is expected to boost BPTT’s gas production capacity by an estimated 590 million standard cubic feet a day (mmscfd). With an investment of approximately US$2 billion, Juniper is BP’s first subsea field development in Trinidad. It produces gas from the Corallita and Lantana fields via the new Juniper platform, 80 kilometres (50 miles) off the south-east coast of Trinidad in water approximately 110 metres deep. The gas then flows to the Mahogany B hub via a new ten-kilometre flowline that was installed in 2016. Bernard Looney, chief executive of BP’s Upstream business, said: “Delivered on schedule and under budget, Juniper is a major milestone in BP’s more than 50 years of investment in Trinidad and Tobago. At peak the development is expected to deliver average gas production of 250-300 million standard cubic feet a day (mmscfd). Production from

Shell takes final investment decision to build a new petrochemicals complex in Pennsylvania, US

Jun 7, 2016 Shell Chemical Appalachia LLC (Shell) has taken the final investment decision to build a major petrochemical complex , comprising an ethylene cracker with polyethylene derivatives unit, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Main construction will start in approximately 18 months, with commercial production expected to begin early in the next decade. The complex will use low-cost ethane from shale gas producers in the Marcellus and Utica basins to produce 1.6 million tonnes of polyethylene per year. Polyethylene is used in many products, from food packaging and containers to automotive components. The facility will be built on the banks of the Ohio River in Potter Township, Beaver County, about 30 miles north-west of Pittsburgh. As a result of its close proximity to gas feedstock, the complex, and its customers, will benefit from shorter and more dependable supply chains, compared to supply from the Gulf Coast. The location is also ideal because more than 70% of North America
